Writers @ GasworksSunday, 6th August 2006 Song Writing Workshop with Sarah Carroll First up the song writing workshop proved to be so popular that it was moved from the Garden Studio to the main building with twenty people attending on the day. It was a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where people could ask all the questions they had been thinking of for a while and get immediate answers. One of the highlights of the song writing workshop apart from Sarah singing several songs were the songs the participants bought themselves. It was amazing that it only took a few notes for songs to start going together and with the assistance of the rest of the group on percussion it was really great. Singer/Songwriters in Conversation with Rebecca Barnard & Odette Snellen Introducing the panel discussion was Sarah Carroll who played 'Drunk Man' which was very warmly received. With several of the people from the workshop also attending, this panel discussion on the singer/songwriters in the music industry was very insightful. I also was able to meet Rebecca Barnard and hear a lot more about her career that I didn't know before. Odette Snellen and Michael Crane also had some interesting contributions to make to the discussion and it was a great discussion as I learnt a lot about the music industry. Rounding off the day was an open-mic session that started with Rebecca Barnard playing a few songs. Following up was Gasworks own Selina who played some lovely songs of her own. The final two performers for the day were Penelope and another woman who did a spoken word style piece which was interesting. |
