The last heat before the final and it was a tough one as all the people who had been holding off or had not been able to make it until now decided to turn up at the same time.

There were several new poets and some that hadn't performed at Poetry Idol before, which would have made it very difficult to choose a winner amongst all of them.

I liked seeing some people having fun such as Paul Segal's assistant and Miriam Lev with her cape. It's a tough competition and you can't take it seriously all the time.

The final is on 31st of August at ACMI in Federation Square as part of the Melbourne Writers' Festival and also marks the first anniversary of myself covering the Poetry Idol competition. I am sure it will sell out and there will be even more fierce competition than all the heats put together. The draw has already been worked out after the last heat (people stayed to watch and cheered as names were read out). It will be straight down to business on the night and may the best poet win.
