Heat 2 of Poetry Idol for 2008 and the competition is getting more fierce with quite a few new people entering in this round.
Due to the draw for this heat a lot of the more established poets ended up in the first half which would have made it more difficult for the judges.
The new contestants were surprising, especially Sophie Pearl who ended up winning one of the prizes for this heat.
In the end the judges had to award a second encouragement award due to the high standard of competitors in this heat. The next heats should only get better leading up to the final so expect an even higher standard in the months to come.
I thought the new arrangements with the event being held in the opposite corner of the library worked out well and having the courtyard for wine and cheese was cosy, but interesting and more conducive to conversation.
